2009 cameron hughes lot 247 cabernet sauvignon
Nice fruit, good flavors, good finish, good bottle of wine.

2009 educated guess cabernet sauvignon
Pretty standard stuff for a cab sauv. For a $16 wine it was not anything special...prolly not a rebuy for me. ? Certainly not a terrible wine, just nothing special.

Curtis 2008 mourvedre blended especially for julio's liquors in westborow mass.
So, I have a special attraction to this wine, but having said that,,,it was a very good wine. A gift from my sister in massachusetts, this turned out to be a nice surprise. Good and fruity with nice flavors throughout with a decent finish also. I'm hoping to be able to get more of this, depending on price....
2007 starry night zinfandel
The label boasts blackberries and cherries.....not to this nose or the one across from me.......this is VERY vegetal. Green pepper instead of the spicy black I was expecting....I think disjointed is a good word to describe this wine. I've got two bottles left, and not exactly sure what i'm going to do with them.

2007 humanitas cabernet franc dry creek valley.(schlumberger)
A friend brought this over and all I can say is wow, wow, wow.........Huge nose with bright fruit, good flavors on the mid-pallette and an absolutely huge finish that lasted at least 90 seconds. Now the downside is you may only be able to get this wine from the winery itself ( michael schlumberger) it lists for around $40 but my friend says you can get it cheaper from the wine club. Did I mention this was an outstanding wine, because it was! I'm so very thank-ful some of my friends can afford better wine than I...
2005 oakville cabernet sauvignon
First of all, let me say, I paid about 30 dollars for this, and if you had to buy it today it's around 70 bucks. This was a very good bottle of wine with good fruit and flavors and nose. I don't think I would pay $70 for this, but at 30 bucks, not a problem. Overall, very happy with this bottle.

2006 pellegrini cab franc
Classic cab franc nose and flavors with a good finish. A nice bottle of wine. The 2004 was not as good, but this is a rebuy for sure!

2007 anthony road M.R.S. cab franc
OK, I had BIG expectations for this wine, but I have to tell you, I was not impressed. The big expectations came from the $30 price tag. I had asked one of our local wine enthusiasts for his 10 best finger lakes wines, and this made the list. Now, I had this wine with a nice NYS strip steak, and some oven roasted garlic on some french bread. the wine, never shined. Did the garlic overpower it? Maybe...but this was a dissapointment, and it really is starting to re-afirm my belief that there are no good NYS red wines. I am following this up with a cab franc from Long island...it will be on the next post.

2009 cameron hughes lot 234 meritage
Nice bottle of wine. Good fruit on the nose, nice mid-pallette flavors but a bit weak on the finish. For $16 would I buy again........not sure..
Sunday, November 13, 2011
victorianbourg wine estate meritage (nv)
I'm always leery of NYS red wine because they usually taste pretty good in the tasting room, but can be a disappointment once you get them home. This did not disappoint! Nice nose of red fruit, and a good mid-palette with a medium finish...For $15 though, I'm not sure if I would rebuy.Maybe at the 12-13 dollar level...

Not wine, but nascar! (kyle busch)
I like kyle busch! He may be the best driver with the most natural talent out there right now. He was stupid for wrecking ron hornaday in the trucks and was properly punished. Now it's getting out of hand....the nationwide sponsors don't want him in the car...apparently m&m's isn't going to be on the car the last two races of the year in the sprint cup series. GIMME A FUC*ING BREAK!!!! Dale Earnhardt pretty much wrecked who ever he wanted where ever he wanted (ask terry labonte) and everybody loved him for it. NASCAR is facing a situation where the stands are about 3/4 full at most of the tracks.( i quit going a couple years ago) Driving around in a circle for 500 miles is a bit boring... BTW, TRUCKS ARE the best racing in nascar these days....the sport needs kyle busch, and sponsors who actually want their products on TV because their drivers are leading a few laps are going to want kyle also. Let's keep kyle doing what he does best.....driving and causing controversy !!
2010 cameron hughes lot 228 moscato d'asti
A light , slightly bubbly appertif wine. I got a bit of citrus on the nose and a very nice refreshing taste. Any heavy food would overpower this, but then again, that's not what it is meant for. The light bubble finish on the end is very nice. I would definately rebuy this wine.

2009 terra andina cabernet sauvignon.
A $6 wine should not taste this good! Nice red fruit with a good finish. Considering buying a case of this, just to have a good everyday drinker on hand.
2009 nugan vision riverina cabernet sauvugnon
After having a head cold for a week, this was the first wine I could really taste. It did not dissapoint, especially for a $7 wine. Standard flavors for a cab sauv, with a little oak on the nose. a rebuy for sure.
Sunday, October 23, 2011
2009 Cameron Hughes lot 224 high valley syrah
This was not a very good wine. Disjointed, and a funky taste. I'm gonna let this one sit quite a while before opening the next one, although I'm guessing it wont help. Only drank half yesterday between a couple people, and will give it another try later today to see if there is any difference.
OK, day two was much better for this wine, really mellowed out. Next time, I will decant for a couple hours...

2009 Cameron Hughes lot 230 chalk hill cabernet sauvignon.
Nothing special about this one, but not terrible either. Prolly not a rebuy though..
2004 la rasina brunello di montalcino
Very nice wine with good long finish. A little leather on the nose with red fruit.Good mouthfeel, and tannins on the finish, but not overpowering. For a $25 wine, I would re-buy.
Sunday, October 16, 2011
2009 robert mondavi p.s. meritage
OK, so this wine was around $10 bucks, so I wasn't expecting anything great, and I wasn't disappointed. Not a rebuy.Wasn't terrible, but not much to brag about either...

chateau niagara cayuga (NYS)
This winery is just about a year old, and there were only 5 wines to taste. Normally I would not even have tasted the cayuga, since it is usually just a sweet grapey taste. But, since there were only 5 wines on the list, I decided to taste them all. What a pleasant surprise! Not grapey at all! I blind tasted this with some friends and they all agreed it was a very good wine. One guess was a voignet, and one did have a sense of the grapiness, which I did not detect. We had this wine with some salmon with a spicy topping on it and everyone agreed it went very well! This winery is supposed to come out with a meritage very soon, and I am looking forward to going back and trying that, and purchasing some more of this Cayuga!
2007 Ravines meritage (NYS)
This was a very good wine, with general agreement among three friends I tasted this with. Nice nose, good flavors and a decent finish. Even though this was a $20 wine, which is a bit expensive for a NY red, will rebuy for sure.
2008 Freedom Run pinot noir(nys)
This absolutely blew me away in the tasting room. There was a 08 and a 09. I thought the 08 was far superior. However, popped this at a friends house and it was a bit harsh and generally not that good. Not a rebuy for sure...

2009 the immortal zin, old vine
So, I prolly reviewed this before, and my own personal notes were this was a good wine. Today, I opened this as I was making some pasta, and it was very good. A few hours later, I had another glass without the food, and I wasnt so sure. So I had some cheese and crackers and it came back. bottom line, this may be one thats better with a bit of food.... For $11, a no brainer for a rebuy!
Monday, October 10, 2011
The Messenger (telegram red wine # 2) red blend
Lightly oaked on nose, black fruit, good mouthfeel, nice finish. For a $12 wine, this was a winner.
seven daughters red blend
For a $10 wine, not impressed. Seemed a bit young, and slightly harsh. Not a rebuy.
2007 meridian vineyards cab sauv
Lightly oaked, red fruit, light spice on finish. I would buy again..especially for 8 bucks.

2007 columbia valley merlot ecole #41
Let me start by saying, I am NOT a merlot fan, but am trying to find at least one or two I like. Having said that, so far, my favorite is one from the north fork of long island. So, this one advertises rich with spicy aromas, shows red berry fruit and black plum wrapped in a peppery black cherry finish.....Ok, I get the red fruit on the nose, there is absolutely no pepper on this finish. For a $14 wine, a major pass....I'm still looking......
Saturday, October 1, 2011
2008 sol special bordeaux
For an $11 bottle of wine, not bad at all. Kind of a leather smell on the nose...nice taste and good flavors. Had with some beef stew (which had a bit if the wine in it) and it paired well.
Thursday, September 29, 2011
2008 pieropan soave la rocca
Just to keep this simple, this was a really nice bottle of wine. Can't wait to drink the other two...
Friday, September 23, 2011
2008 Zugibe dry riesling
Definately grapefruit on the nose.grapefruit through-out for me, with a bit of a lemon-lime finish. Around 11 bucks, prolly not a rebuy, although I usually prefer a semi-dry riesling....
Thursday, September 22, 2011
2008 giulin barbera del monferrato
Great nose red fruit, and a nice mid-pallette and a good finish also. This stays with you for a good 10-15 seconds after the first swallow...
Friday, September 16, 2011
biltmore cabernet sauvignon (nv)
For my first north carolina wine, not bad.A little alcoholly on nose, a bit oaky, which I like, but the mid pallette and finish are a bit weak for me. Prolly not a rebuy, even though this is most likely only available here in NC. Around $15 here.
Wednesday, September 7, 2011
2008 A to Z pinot noir
Traditional cherry flavors on this one, did not back down with some spicy food, but for around 19 bucks, im gonna hafta give it a big pass.......
Tuesday, September 6, 2011
2009 don cayetano carmenere
This was ok at the start, nice nose, good flavors, but as I went through it, it ended up being kinda weak at the end of it. Around a $12 wine, prolly not a rebuy.
Sunday, September 4, 2011
2006 lan rioja
For an $11 wine, this was meh....didnt rock my socks. didnt make me spit it out..prolly not a rebuy.
2008 ravines argetsinger vineyard dry riesling
You know, I REALLY wanted to like this wine, but ultimately, I did not. It's funny, but as much as I like a good dry red wine, I enjoy a semi-dry white. This was advertised as a dry riesling, with a flinty minerally characteristic, and that's exactly what it did. I do not like the minerality for the most part. After reading Evan Dawsons " summer in a glass", the story intrigued me enough to spend around 25 bucks on this wine. It's still a great story, and I think getting to meet Sam Argetsinger would be a blast, but on this wine. I have to pass.....
Friday, September 2, 2011
2006 cliff lede stags leap cab sauv
What can I say, this was an outstanding bottle of wine from the first sip to the last drop? Great nose, flavors and finish! This was my 2nd of 2 bottles, and where this is normally a bit more than I spend for a bottle of wine, well worth it!
Sunday, August 28, 2011
2008 columbia crest amitage
Very nice wine. black fruit throughout and a good finish, with a bit of tannin on the end.
2003 tin shed shiraz
Nice fruit on the front end, and where my limited palette can't distinguish between fruits, i got a distint taste of pommegranaite on the front end.nice midpallete and the fruit hangs on for a nice finish. Only issue, is the amont of debris in this wine. Make sure to filter out the last glass or you might be unpleasantly surprised.
Saturday, August 27, 2011
2009 Tons douro
This was a bit of a strange one..good nose and red fruit on the front end with good flavors on the mid pallette , but started out with a very weak finish. This one actually developed a nice finish the further I got into it.Bought 9 of em, so we'll have to see what happens down the road.
Friday, August 19, 2011
2009 acrobat pinot gris
I hate to fall into the grassy kind of thing with some pinot gris, but this exactly what this is.Not super strong like some sauvignon blanc, but still there. nice finish.some bubbles at the bottom of the glass, which is a bit strange...for 10 bucks, prolly a pass.
Sunday, August 14, 2011
2009 kaiken malbec
Lots of dark fruit , tasty , but this was probably the heaviest wine I have had in quite a while so my view could be a bit skewed. I enjoyed it, but not sure if I would buy again, as the 2005 was also tasted with similiar lackluster notes.
2010 lot 228 cameron hughes moscato d'asti
What a nice little starter for a meal or on it's own! At 7% alcohol, it's not going to make you stupid and it was very light and citrusy, with a slight hint of a bubble at the end. In fact, it kind of popped like champagne when I opened it. for 13 bucks, I would buy again.
Friday, August 12, 2011
2009 berger zweigelt
Well this certainly didnt rock my socks, but I may actually buy another and see what happens. I opened this as a pop and pour and then had it in a white wine glass, so I may have not given it it's proper justice. The wine was very alcoholy on the nose to me, and kind of a flat mid palette.Ended up passing this one around as being a new varietal I had never had, I wanted to share with as many peeps as possible. no raving reviews, no thumbs down either. I'm gonna have to give this some breathing time next try and see if I have a different opinion.
Monday, August 8, 2011
2009 beso de vino red blend
Seemed a little awkward on the nose, maybe a bit of a chemical smell. Pallete was ok, but didnt rock my socks.85% syrah , 15% garnacha......nutin special but for 8 bucks, not a bad wine. Prolly not a rebuy for me...
Tuesday, July 19, 2011
just a wine observation.....
We went to an outdoor jazz concert featuring Spryo Gyra over the weekend. It was 96 and above outside. Between our group, we took 5 different bottles of chardonnay. I'm just saying that if there were ever a reason to keep trying a varietal until you possibl\y find one you like, this was that aha moment. There couldn't have been more differences in these 5 wines, from dry to semi sweet, light on the fruit to fruity, to unoaked to oaky. It was a great learning day, and we got got to listen to some great music as well!!
Wednesday, July 13, 2011
2008 chateau lafayette reneau semi-dry riesling
nice bottle of wine. I thought a bit of a petrol smell on the nose, and had a nice finish with a bit of a bite. I think around $9 and I would rebuy.
Sunday, July 10, 2011
2009 red newt cellars riesling
Well, for a semi sweet riesling, this really impressed me. For my pallette, I usually prefer a semi-dry white wine. Actually, I never would have even bought this wine if it were not for Gary Vaynerchucks daily grape episode #76 where he blind tasted three rieslings. He raved about this wine, and that was good enough for me. Although, our tastes do not always match. Even after eating some spicy pretzel nuggets, this wine did not quit, but really enhanced that flavor, which really impressed me. I've got two more, and can't wait to share with some friends.
Thursday, July 7, 2011
2009 anthony road vignoles
A bit too syrupy feel for me..prolly not a rebuy.Branded as a semi-dry, not so much for me.
Wednesday, July 6, 2011
2008 piesporter goldtropfchen riesling kabinett
So, last time I tried this wine I think I gve it less than thrilling review. This bottle for whatever reason was much better.Fruity and refreshing, but not sweet. Who knows, maybe a better mood, beyyr meal before hand??? Much better response anyway, so goes the wineworld.
Sunday, June 26, 2011
2009 black box cab sauvignon
A bit alcoholy on the nose, some red fruit on the nose.kinda weak mid palette and finish...nothing special for sure, but for the price.. I'll treat it as a come home from work and have a glass of wine kind of wine...might take it camping next time. not sure if I would re-buy....
Thursday, June 23, 2011
2009 plungerhead zinfandel
So, after my initial taste, I was kinda lost and grabbed the bottle to see what thier tasting notes were....I got the red fruit thing, and maybe a bit of cocoa, but this wine is not as complex as the label would lead you to believe...(no surprise I guess, :)..)Not the peppery finish I really enjoy with some zins, but for around the $12 I would rebuy for sure.
Tuesday, June 14, 2011
2007 sebastiani cab sauv.
What I would call a traditional cab nose. Red fruit...light tannins and a decent finish. For around 12 bucks....I would buy again...
Sunday, June 12, 2011
2008 domaine le couroulu vin de pays
Interesting wine. For $6 this tastes like a very good cab franc with a fairly decent (long) finish. A bit alcoholly at times, but overall a very decent wine.I have actually had different vintages of this wine, so I guess that says something in itself...
Saturday, June 11, 2011
2009 Strub soil to soul riesling kabinett
Very nice wine. Lime overtones and a nice smooth finish. I haven't had a lot of experience with German Rieslings, but this one was pretty good. For about 12 bucks, definitely a re buy.
2008 6th sense syrah
Very peppery, went well with the garlicky crackers I was having.I think about $13, I would rebuy.
Saturday, June 4, 2011
Friday, June 3, 2011
2009 mapmaker sauvignon blanc
Can you say somebody was cutting grass in my mouth? I know sauv. blanc can be generally described as this, but this was really predominate. Not overpowering though. I would buy this again.
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
2008 flora springs chardonnay
Getting home after working 12 hours and being around 97 degrees outside, I needed something to quench the thirst. Bypassed the margueritta, and headed for this previously cooled wine. Lightly oaked and refreshing!! I would surely rebuy this wine. perfect fit for the night!
Monday, May 30, 2011
2009 zugibe pinot gris
Popped this after cutting the yard....very mild but tasty, nice light summer wine, definately a rebuy!

summer in a glass book review(add on) Evan Dawson author
When I first posted, I really only talked about the wines a bit, but I wanted to speak to the book a bit more. This is excellent writing about some great people and thier stories. From grape growers, to wine makers, and in between. I got this from the library, but am seriously considering buying it. This author did his homework, and it shows in the pages.
2008 hermann j wiemer semi dry resiling
After stacking some firewood on a nice spring day, I needed something with a bit of acid / bite on the end to cut through the muck in my mouth. This riesling did it in spades.Nice back-end to refreshen the pallette.A rebuy for sure!
Cameron Hughes wines
Tried 3 different blends the other night at a gathering and had the following blends. 190 cab sauv, 227 pinot noir, and 208 cab sauv / syrah blend. 3 winners here folks, with in my opinion, the pinot the best of the bunch. We drank many wines that night, but all three of these are winners...a free ship would entice me to get another case.
Friday, May 20, 2011
cameron hughes lot 208
This is a red blend, 50% each cab sauv and syrah, sourced from napa valley. This was a very good wine. nice flavors and aromas. If they offered free shipping, I might buy a whole case.

Evan Dawson's "Summer in a glass"
OK, so now 259 pages later...WOW, what a great book. I am absolutely inspired to go out and try some NYS wines that were talked about in Evan Dawson's book "Summer in a glass". I had written off NYS reds as being fairly lackluster with no finish, but I am going to try some of the ones mentioned in the book, and see if it has changed. I have previously stated that I think Zugibe makes some of the best reds I have tasted from NYS in quite a while. Looking forward to tasting some new ones....
Friday, May 13, 2011
2006 thierry germain saumur
Wow, I had this with some older brierre cheese and crackers, this was a fantastic wine!! It was a very warm spring day, maybe it lifted my mood. I would definately buy again!!
Sunday, May 8, 2011
2009 sauvion muscadet sevre et maine
Lemon lime on the nose with minerality on the midpallete. Maybe a bit of grapefruit on the finish, but not as acidic as what i had read on it, in my opinion. Had this with some slightly stale french bread and some wonderful brie and some EVOO and some pesto mixed in.Sometimes together, and sometimes not, a nice mix altogether. I've got one more of this and am looking forward to some other peoples opinions on this $8 wine.
Tuesday, May 3, 2011
2008 masia de bielsa vines viejas garnacha
This was a bit harsh upon opening.Venturing this helped quite a bit. Even at $10 bucks, might pass on this one.
Saturday, April 30, 2011
2008 hermann.j. wiemer semi dry riesling & 2008 zugibe semi-dry riesling
OK, so I had both of these wines tonight, with some sushi, both wines were excellent and I look forward to trying them both again....
Saturday, April 23, 2011
2007 Bruce Waynes Brianas blend
For a $12 wine, not so bad. Had it with some beef stroganoff and then on it's own. Oaky enough to know it's there, but not overpowering. I've had other Bruce Wayne wines and they were not as good as this one.
Sunday, April 17, 2011
2007 keith tulloch per diem bloodhorse voigner
Had this with some grilled chicken. Did not rock my socks and will not buy again. $12.
Saturday, April 16, 2011
2009 graffigna pinot grigio reserve
To me, this was much more of a sauvignon blanc, with more grassy flavors coming thru instead of the floral and fruity as posted on the label. I had this with a fish fry yesterday, and with some sushi today. I will say it IS a bit fruitier today, and not as grassy..However, for an $8 wine. not bad at all. I would prolly not buy again.
Sunday, April 10, 2011
Monday, March 28, 2011
2008 gouguenheim cab sauv.
I would say a little alcoholy on the nose, otherwise kinda muted. Red fruits on the palette and a light finish. However for 7 bucks, not a bad deal at all.
Sunday, March 27, 2011
2007 black pig ribero del douro
Red fruit on the nose, kinda light on the palette and some light but nice tannins on the end. Now this is the first sip, so will update thru the night...the only update I would offer was the back of the palette did kinda come thru and offer a finish that was a bit lingering. For $11 not a bad wine at all.
Friday, March 25, 2011
kesselstatt piesporter riesling 2008
So, this is my first german riesling...the nose I cannot describe..just something i cannot place...wow, first splash across the tongue is the same....right at the tip. I really thought it was going to be a sparkling wine..that quickly went away and then it seemed a bit reserved. Not the bite I'm looking for in my typical NY riesling. I should also mention that this first taste is just at basement temp, which is about 55. It's in the fridge now, so the rest may be totally different.
2008 boschendal sauvignon blanc grand cuvee
Well, I had this with some homemade quesadillas, which may have been a bit too spicy for this wine. This definitely had a nice acidic finish. I got a little grassy on the nose, but with some nice fruitiness on the palette. At 13 bucks, not sure if I would buy again...
Thursday, March 24, 2011
2006 mirimar estate pinot noir
Initially I was kinda nervous after opening this, as it seemed a bit thin. But, I did open this as a pop n pour and I had it after dinner. It showed traditional cherry on the nose with red fruits on the palette and a nice finish. I'm always a bit nervous when I'm in the $20 price range and the wine doesn't deliver, but this turned out ok....
Tuesday, March 22, 2011
mirassou cab sauv
OK, so nothing great going on here, but for a value wine, this is doing pretty good with the pizza I had for dinner.I will continue to get this for an ANY day drinker. And hey, it's the official wine of the LPGA and we need to support the girls!
Friday, March 11, 2011
2006 P.lesec galets blonds Chateauneuf du Pape
I've had this one in the cellar for a bit, and am having it with just some snacks, no serious food. A l.ittle cherry on the nose, and if anything, just a little pepper on the end which is a real surprise, but in all honesty, I have not had that much CDP. I'm thinking that this is gonna be a pass......
Tuesday, March 8, 2011
2007 domaine le couroulu vin de pays
No special occasion here.(nor are many of my wine drinking experiences). just decided to do a pop and pour and keep warm on a cold winter night...I've had this value wine once before, with favorable notes.2nd time did not dissapoint. nice nose, taste and aftertaste.
Sunday, March 6, 2011
2008 shadowood merlot
Merlot...really have struggled to find one I can get ga-ga over...the best I have had to date is from long island, ironically enough, duck walk winery. So, having said that, trying this merlot from California. With some cheddar cheese, which I had switched from garlic crackers as I thought the garlic would overpower the merlot.Nice nose, but lacked a really good finish. I'll have three more tries to pair this wine with something better...
peirano estate immortal zin
Was looking for something to handle some chili and spicy chinese. This did not dissapoint. Not the spiciest of Zins I have ever had, but fit the bill for sure.
Thursday, March 3, 2011
2008 nugan estates vision cab sauv.
Just kinda worked my way through this wine with nothing special in mind as far as food. Not a bad cab at all and I would certainly rebuy.

2006 barbaresco
Wasn't sure what to drink with my scallops alfredo. Went with a 2006 Barbaresco, an italian wine from Fondatore Domizio. Not too bad, a bit tannic on the end, which I imagine wil loosen up a bit with some air.

Best wine ever?????
So, I've had this 2000 paleo cab franc for a little over a year and was waiting for the right moment to have it....invited a friend over for some steaks and he brought over a cab sauv, which we started while cooking the steaks, and chit chatting. Steaks were done and we popped the cab franc...WOW, blew away my expectations!! What great tastes, flavors. The only sad part of the whole thing is the replacement cost...I paid around 33 bucks for that one, replacement cost, almost 90 bucks....ouch. Not parting with that cash, unless the lottery comes calling. Although, I did notice the wine was up about 3/4 ths of the way up the cork, so maybe time is not on this ones side...Anyway, ended killing a couple more bottles including a brother to the paleo, but it was not as good. Wife got mad for being a bit noisy as she was trying to sleep, but not too bad...

two wines, two stories
So, I initially cracked a 2006 chateau roustang bordeaux. Way too bitter so let it sit overnite lightly corked.....very good the next day, until i hit the 2nd glass.... back to the bitterness. Might try to vinturi this one. 2nd wine a 2007 five rivers cab sauv. First nite was very good, but 2nd nite was bitter. Age was not this one's friend.Of the two, I guess I would give the bordeaux a 2nd chance.

Colores del sol 2009 malbec. A little light on the flavors, but not terrible. I prolly won't re-buy though...

shaking up the mouth
Well, i was looking for something a bit different than i've been drinking...how bout some some monastrell!! Had a little wrongo dongo, 2008 version. Just what the doctor ordered!! almost a chemical taste, like yard fertilizer, with a little pepper mixed in, but it did the trick and my taste buds are in a better shape!!

alfredo scallpos and zugibe riesling
So, for something as bit different, I tried scallops instead of shrimp with some linguine and alfredo sauce. Paired it with a nice 2008 Zugibe riesling. both turned out very nice.

playing around
Went to see a local production of RENT last night that my nephew was in. We got a bonus when Gwen Stewart from the original broadway show was in the house and she sang with the rest of the group in the finale. She still has a sweet voice and was VERY personable to everyone, sticking around for pictures and autographs. Beers afterwards at an irish pub. Nice nite....

Good new york state red wine? (Zugibe)
Over the years I've been drinking NYS red wines, I have found as good as they taste at the winery, once you get em home, they don't measure up. I've also come to the conclusion that the reason for this is they have no finish. I went to a tasting at Zugibe vineyards over the summer. Their red wines were delicous, but I did not purchase any at the time. They were a bit expensive at the winery, and you can usually find them at a local liquor store at a discount price.(Why this is, I will never know) Anyway, as it turns out, being a fairly new winery, they did not have any distribution channels set up yet. So, I could not purchase any of the wine. Well last weekend I was going to meet some friends for breakfast, and this would have put me about halfway to the winery. So I was going to make the journey and pay the price because I REALLY wanted to try these wines. I ended up doing a bit of research just before I left and found a local wine shop that carried the Zugibe brands. I purchased three of the reds and a riesling. I have opened the pinot noir tonight and so far it has not disappointed. Some of the traditional cherry you would expect from a pinot with a nice long finish. I'll have to share the next bottle with some friends to get some other feedback.
