just a wine observation.....

We went to an outdoor jazz concert featuring Spryo Gyra over the weekend. It was 96 and above outside. Between our group, we took 5 different bottles of chardonnay. I'm just saying that if there were ever a reason to keep trying a varietal until you possibl\y find one you like, this was that aha moment. There couldn't have been more differences in these 5 wines, from dry to semi sweet, light on the fruit to fruity, to unoaked to oaky. It was a great learning day, and we got got to listen to some great music as well!!

2008 chateau lafayette reneau semi-dry riesling

nice bottle of wine. I thought a bit of a petrol smell on the nose, and had a nice finish with a bit of a bite. I think around $9 and I would rebuy.

2009 red newt cellars riesling

Well, for a semi sweet riesling, this really impressed me. For my pallette, I usually prefer a semi-dry white wine. Actually, I never would have even bought this wine if it were not for Gary Vaynerchucks daily grape episode #76 where he blind tasted three rieslings. He raved about this wine, and that was good enough for me. Although, our tastes do not always match. Even after eating some spicy pretzel nuggets, this wine did not quit, but really enhanced that flavor, which really impressed me. I've got two more, and can't wait to share with some friends.

2008 piesporter goldtropfchen riesling kabinett

So, last time I tried this wine I think I gve it  less than thrilling review. This bottle for whatever reason was much better.Fruity and refreshing, but not sweet. Who knows, maybe a better mood, beyyr meal before hand??? Much better response anyway, so goes the wineworld.
