spoiling myself

I decided to use a gift card I received for xmas on one bottle of wine (port) A nice twenty year tawny port from taylor fladgate. Can't wait to try it....

sushi and vinho verde

Had some nice sushi for lunch today and paired it with some vinho verde from famega. Nice pairing. Shared it with older son before he returns to boston.

xmas eve and a few bottles....

Drank a couple cab sauv's and the wine which will not be named. The cab sauvs were an avalon, very good, and a lyeth. The wine which will not be named (les crates) was also ok, and it was my 2nd and final one. I think the general consensus was the avalon was the best. good to have both boys home.

fetzer cab sauv

Well with one son home, and one still due home, we cracked a fetzer cab sauv tonight.not bad at all, a very value priced wine that succeeds.

bully hill cab franc

This was the latest version of this wine, no vintage but prolly around a 2009 .not very good at all, which is not surprising for a bully hill wine as I prefer the drier versions, but for a cab franc, this was pretty sweet. Another stake in the heart of finger lakes red wines...

a tale of two wines

Well, after making pesto chicken for dinner and drinking a vrav macon chardonnay, enjoying a  tilia cab sauv for the evening commute... so far, so good

spaghetti and chianti

"juiced" up some jarred spag. sauce and had some chianti with it, not bad at all. wish I would have had some parmesan peppercorn bread to go with it.. :(

cab sauv and snow

Well after shoveling some snow the last couple nights, drinking a couple value cabs..last night was a louis martini , tonight a wolf blass. both in the 10 dollar range. I think i like the wolf blass just a bit more..

great party

Another great party hosoted by Mr. sovie last night, Around 20 people showed up and a great time was had by all. Drank a bunch of great wine, with a taste off between an 06 bordeaux and a 06 cali cab. I thought the bordeaux had so much of a backend that it overpowered the cab. They were both good though. also had several otheer varietals during the night, all good.

Going to a friends house tonight for a holiday party....much wine will be consumed, hope we can remember which ones were the best....:)

hockey ?

Normally my saying is if im sitting in front of the tv watching a hockey game its because ive slit my wrists and am waiting to die......however, i AM going to a real hockey game tonight with " the boys" in buffalo. going to irish times before the game to catch something to eat, and perhaps have an adult beverage to go with it. im sure the beers inside will be "cheap". :) still getting some lake effect snow right now, hopefully it will be gone by the time for our trip. also, had a redtree pinot noir last night, pop and poured, a bit iffy at first but opened up enough during the night to be pretty good, one of my value re-buys.

how much is enough?

Well, after a bit of work going thru my wine reviews, I believe I have enough wine to get me thru the holidays now. :) I compiled a list of all my good reviews under $10 and then built a list of about 35. Then I went to our local store where you can shop online (Marketview liquor) and ordered a couple of cases. Drove up, kept the truck running, and had it and gone in about two minutes!! 21 reds, and a couple whites.

weekend traveler ( Oneonta college )

Went to oneonta over the weekend to see our sons fiancee graduate from college.Nice trip, great ceremony (not to long) and good to see her family again, we were treated to pizza on saturday night, and a nice lunch on sunday after the ceremony and before we left for back home. Trip going down was very smooth and no issues, on the way back it was much worse weather wise, and parts were a bit hairy. Made it back with no issues, and there was about 6-8 inches of snow on the ground.

thursday

Short workday today, then a quick trip this weekend to see the fdil graduate from college! Drinking the beaujolais noveau. Actually tastes like concord grapes to me. Not the worst thing I've ever drank.
